Whenever people plan a trip to Langkawi, the first thing that usually comes to mind is to fly there. But when I made a last minute decision to go on a road trip after my sister asked me to join her in Melaka, I asked my hubby if he is okay to drive up to Langkawi and see if we can ferry our Singapore car to Langkawi over or rent car over there.
After doing some research, I found out it’s actually possible us to ferry our Singapore car over to Langkawi. And the ferry ticket is actually cheaper than we rent car in Langkawi. Plus considering the logistics and safety of parking our car at Kuala Perlis and carrying our luggage around with 4 kids, ferry our car over is the best option.

According to my research, there are three providers: Wantas RORO, Langkawi RORO, and Langkawi Auto Express. Each charges differently and offers different ferry timings. You can visit their websites to decide which one best suits your budget and preferred schedule.
For me, I chose Langkawi Auto Express.

Langkawi Auto Express Experience
Once we parked our car, we headed to the passenger deck. It’s very spacious and air-conditioned, with tables in the middle two rows. They do sell snacks and drinks on board, but you can also bring your own. Surprisingly, the toilet is clean!

The ride takes about 1 hour 30 to 45 minutes, but it may be longer if the tides or weather are not favorable. I recommend bringing some activities or books to keep the kids occupied.

You can also choose to enjoy the sea breeze or views outside, just make sure you watch out for your kids safety.

For departure, the check in process is the same, but there will be custom check before you can drive up to the ferry.

That’s about my experience! I would say worth to give it a try!
