During one of our family trips to Johor Bahru, we had dinner at FirePitz and if you area around the Iskandar area, I highly recommend trying the steak here.

FirePitz it’s at second floor. The restaurant has a modern and cosy interior. One of the first things you will notice is their open kitchen, where you can watch the chefs prepare and grill the food over a real wood fire.

FirePitz is a modern wood-fire grill restaurant that specialises in premium steaks and meats. They have a wide selection of beef cuts, including dry-aged options, and most of their dishes are cooked over a real wood fire.

The moment we sat down, the staff brought out a tray of different beef cuts and explained each one. It was a really interesting experience for both me and my kids. It also helped us understand the different cuts of beef and their textures, making it much easier to choose what we wanted to order.

Food We Ordered
Aged Norwegian Organic Salmon Crudo (RM48)
I really loved this as a starter because it was so refreshing and light. The aged salmon was fresh, and together with the pickled cucumber and ikura, everything complemented one another really well without overpowering the natural flavour of the salmon.

Kaya Foie Gras Toast (RM85)
When I first saw this dish, I thought the combination was really interesting because I have never had kaya paired with foie gras before. Surprisingly, it worked really well. The sweetness of the kaya actually balanced out the richness of the foie gras so it didn’t feel too heavy or overwhelming. The toast is also crispy, so when you bite, it give you a wonderful mix of crispy, creamy, and slightly sweet textures.

Grilled Cameron White Corn (RM34)
If you are bringing your kids along for dinner, I highly recommend ordering this for them! The white corn was so sweet, juicy and crunchy. It’s cooked over a wood fire, so it has a light char and a subtle smoky flavour. The crushed nuts sprinkled around added a nice crunch too!

Korea Hanwoo Sirloin (RM220/100g, subject to daily price changes)
For the steak, we had the Hanwoo Sirloin. It was cooked exactly the way we like it, medium rare. The steak was really juicy and tender. The outside had a nice char, and the wood fire gave it a delicious smoky flavour. Even though it came with three different sauces, I actually preferred having it with just a sprinkle of sea salt because the beef was already so flavourful on its own.

Aged Pineapple Chicken (RM98)
The wood-fire chicken was also really good, but I have to say I loved the creamy truffle mushroom sauce even more! It paired so well with the chicken. I also love how they decorated the dish with edible flowers, which made it look even more beautiful and appetising.

Mango Refreshing (RM26) / Sticky Toffe Pudding (RM32)
For dessert, we had the Mango Refreshing and the Sticky Toffee Pudding. If you prefer something light and refreshing after a hearty meal, the Mango Refreshing is a great choice. But if you have a sweet tooth, I would definitely recommend the Sticky Toffee Pudding.

Overall, we had a really satisfying dining experience at Firepitz. The food was good, the service was attentive, and the whole experience felt enjoyable from start to finish. We also noticed quite a number of people celebrating birthdays and having gatherings, so it seems like a popular place for special occasions with family and friends.
For those who are wondering, Firepitz is not Halal-certified as alcohol is served on the premises. However, they shared that their butchery supplies come with Halal certification. This may be a suitable option for some Muslim diners.
