After checking out of our hotel in Melaka, we headed straight to Kuala Perlis for a one night stay before catching the ferry to Langkawi the next day. We were supposed to fly to Langkawi, but due to the Melaka trip with my sister’s family, we decided to turn it into a road trip instead and it turned out to be quite an exciting and memorable experience!

ToggleRoad Trip To Langkawi
We drove for about 3 hours and stopped by the Tapah area for lunch. I highly recommend this stop if you’re passing through the North-South Expressway. The food here is comforting, and this place is located in a kampung with very friendly staffs.
We ordered kolo mee for the kids and for us we had the beef soup. The beef soup is herbal style and the portion they give is quite generous.

One Night Stay At Kuala Perlis
Kuala Perlis Hotel – Savana Hotel & Apartments
After driving another 4 hours, we finally reach our hotel at Kuala Perlis. The RORO ferry port is at Kuala Perlis and our ferry timing is at 11am so, I decided to arrange a night stay in Kuala Perlis – Savana Hotel. This hotel is only 3 mins away from the ferry port.
I booked the hotel through Booking.com and reserved two rooms, thinking they were connected. Unfortunately, they weren’t. The staff pointed this out and suggested their apartment instead. I think he noticed that I had very young kids, so he offered me that option, which I really appreciated. The only downside is that you have to carry your luggage up the stairs, but he helped us with that too. Truly giving them a thumbs up for such great service in a small town!

The apartment looked very clean and new. I booked the two room apartment, which came with one extra large double bed and one large double bed. The TV also had Netflix, and you can log in using your own account. Both rooms comes with toilet and shower area.
And just directly opposite the hotel, there is a supermarket, Eco shop and Mixue.

Kuala Perlis Food
Restoran Wallaya
The town is very quiet but they have nice food options. Just the building beside the hotel, there is this stall selling Malay and Thai style food. Very affordable and delicious. The staffs doesn’t speak English, but yet they are still very patient and friendly in serving us.
We ordered Kway teow which is very different style, it’s soggy but my daughter said is very nice. We also ordered fried rice, fried noodle and tom yum soup.

Kedai Kopi Juat Lye
For breakfast, we went to a very old-school stall for some simple toast and eggs. Not many places were open that early, most were just small stalls along the road or near the ferry terminal. So we decided to eat here instead.
At first we thought we went to the wrong shop, because it doesn’t look like a coffeeshop and only one auntie folding paper.

Ferry To Langkawi
For more details on the ferry to Langkawi, I have actually created a separate blog post about it. I have documented how to book the tickets, the necessary documents you will need, and our overall experience. So be sure to check it out if you are planning to drive to Langkawi!
Day 1 In Langkawi
Check in to Langkawi Airbnb
Once we arrived in Langkawi, we checked into our Airbnb. It’s a landed property that can accommodate up to 18 people. There are a total of 6 rooms, and the living room is very spacious. It comes with 3 arcade machines, which the kids kept playing non-stop. There’s also a swimming pool. Interestingly, there are 2 fridges, I’m not sure why, but it definitely feels like the place is meant for big family or friends’ gatherings.

Dinner at Paradise Seafood Restaurant
Once my friend’s family arrived and the kids played together for a while, we all went out for dinner at Restoran Paradise. It’s an open-air Chinese zi char-style restaurant.
Overall, the food was not bad. The dishes I highly recommend are their signature prawns and lemon chicken.

Snacks Shopping at Pasaraya You Save
After dinner, we went to Pasaraya You Save to buy some drinks and snacks to chill in our airbnb. Pasaraya You Save is like a hypermart.

Day 2 In Langkawi
Breakfast at Nasi Lemak Mak Lang
We had breakfast at Nasi Lemak Mak Lang, which was on the way to our next location. We ordered the regular nasi lemak for the kids, and I had their lontong without sambal. Since there was no sambal, they replaced it with peanut sauce. It was a little spicy, but still acceptable. The crispy tempeh inside the lotong is so good and delicious. I will definitely go back again for their lotong.

Highest Peak of Langkawi – Gunung Raya
After breakfast, we drove about 30mins to the highest peak of Langkawi! Along the way, we encounter monkeys, and also clouds. Got to drive carefully!

The day we went up, it was quite cloudy. It took some time before the clouds moved on and we could finally enjoy the panoramic view of Langkawi.

At the top of Gunung Raya, there is an abandoned hotel – D’Coconut Hill Resort. Although it’s abandoned, but we saw some staff doing some maintenance around the area.

Dataran Lang
This place is mainly a tourist attraction for photo-taking! Even though it’s just a photo spot, I still recommend going because the area is very spacious, offers a great view, and the giant eagle statue is truly beautiful.

Lunch New Water Garden Hawker Centre
For lunch, we went to New Water Garden Hawker Centre. We didn’t eat anything too heavy since we were planning to have a BBQ at our Airbnb in the evening. The hawker centre was conveniently located along the way to our next activity.
Most of the stalls were closed, so we had char kway teow and spring onion noodles, both were decent and very affordable.

Langkawi Wildlife Park
For Langkawi Wildlife Park, it’s best to buy the feeding pack, which cost RM9. This park, you can really feed from the start right till the end. I highly recommend this park for young kids because the park has a lot of sheltered walkway, which makes walking is easier because not hot and the animals are small to mid-range size, which makes feeding a lot more enjoyable.
At some of the animal stations, they provide free animal feed. At the bird station, a staff member will pour some bird feed onto your hand. Once the birds fly over to you, they’ll take a nice photo, which you can choose to purchase when you exit the park.

BBQ at Airbnb
For our second night’s dinner, we had a BBQ at our Airbnb. I arranged everything with the host and requested helpers to assist with the BBQ. We paid a total of RM1400 for the food, drinks, fruit platter, and two BBQ helpers, who also helped with the cleanup. The amount of food was really a lot, so much that we couldn’t finish it. We ended up asking the staff to take back the leftovers.
Lucky the weather is good, so the can kids swim, and we can have BBQ food.

Day 3 In Langkawi
Breakfast at San Restaurant
For breakfast we had it at San Restaurant, the char siew wanton noodle is good, but the herbal chicken soup is okay only.

Mangrove Tour & Snorkeling in Langkawi
After breakfast, we headed straight to Tanjung Rhu Mangrove Jetty to meet our tour guide for the mangrove and snorkeling tour. We paid RM560 for 3 adults and 5 kids, and topped up RM15 per person for lunch at the kelong. The entire session lasted about 3 to 4 hours, and it was a private tour. We got to do some island hopping, feed and touch some fishes, feed monkeys, explore the bat cave, watch eagle feeding, and go snorkeling.

Tips for Mangrove tour and snorkeling.
🤿 Book in advance because each day they only take 2 groups.
🤿 Uncle James said best time to go is few days before or after Chinese Lunar 1st and 15th (coz of the tides)
🤿 Wear your swimwear so you no need go Q for toilet.
🤿 Wear light /sports wear material over your swimwear.
🤿 They do provide snorkeling mask but you can bring your own.
🤿 No washing facilities, so bring towel along so can dry yourself up.
🤿 More worth it for more than 6 pax (adults)
You can go to this link or DM me in my social for Uncle James contact.
Dinner at Wonderland Food Store
This is another Chinese zi char style restaurant, located slightly further than the previous one. Both are equally good in terms of taste, but this place is much more affordable. Although the selection is not as much compared to the previous one, but it’s still good and not too heavy and salty. Their ceral prawn is very nice too!

Their crabs is local crab, so not so big, as what the boss said. The biggest is about 400-500g. So we ordered 5 crabs, and cooked salted egg and chilli crab. The salted egg crab taste better than chilli crab.

Night Market Kuah Town
After dinner, we went to Langkawi Night Market Kuah Town. Over here is not very big and easy to walk. Here sells a lot of authentic Malaysia malay food. We bought some kueh, satay and cake back to airbnb to continue eating. You can actually settle your dinner here if you want, very budget meal!

Day 4 In Langkawi
Langkawi Cable Car
Day 4 we went for the Langkawi Cable Car! It’s one of the must-visit attractions in Langkawi. The cable car takes you up to Gunung Mat Cincang, where you can enjoy panoramic views of the island and even spot a mini waterfall.
When we arrived, there was a red London-style bus that can take you to the cable car entrance, but we chose not to take it since it’s just a short walk and if I remember correctly, it costs RM10 per person.

We booked a private cable car for 6 online, and I didn’t know it came with express lane access too. That turned out to be really great for us especially with the kids and the hot weather. It was nice to board our cable car as quickly as possible.

There are a total of three stations. The first station is the base station where we take the first cable car. Second station is where the Eagle’s Nest SkyWalk is located. We just stood outside to take photos, because entering requires an additional ticket fee.

The third station of the Langkawi Cable Car is where the SkyBridge is located. The SkyBridge is the world’s longest curved suspension bridge. Once you reach the station, it’s about a 10–15-minute climb to the SkyBridge. If you are unable to climb the stairs, you can pay to take the SkyGlide instead. There are a few resting stops along the way, so it’s not too bad.
Once you reach the SkyBridge, you can enjoy a stunning 360-degree view of Langkawi. Just make sure you wear comfortable shoes and nice outfit, so you can take lots of photos!

The tickets we bought also included access to the SkyDome, 3D Museum, and SkyRex. Unfortunately, SkyRex was closed when we were there, so we didn’t get to experience it.
The SkyDome played a 3D cartoon, which was in Malay with English subtitles. However, my kids couldn’t fully enjoy it, as it was a bit difficult for the two younger ones to keep up with the subtitles. So, we left after watching for less than 5minutes.

For the 3D Museum, I think it was one of the highlights of the cable car trip for my kids. They spent more than an hour inside, taking photos nonstop. It’s much bigger than the 3D Museum in Singapore, and quite fun! Our kids really enjoyed it and had plenty of time and space to let their creativity flow. By the way, no shoes are allowed inside.
Showing you guys some photos!

Lunch at Kapal Layar Langkawi
For lunch, we went to Kapal Layar. Even though the weather was quite hot, the nice view and the staff blasting big fans at us made up for it! The food was pretty good especially the Thai sauce chicken, which is a must order. I forgot to take a photo of it because the kids finished it up so quickly!
Over here also have a lot of photo taking place, where you take a lot of videos and photos.

Laman Padi Langkawi
Initially, I came here hoping to do some activities if we had the time, but we couldn’t find any staff to enquire with, so we just walked around freely at our own pace. There is actually a small museum, free entry, showcasing Malaysia’s traditional way of rice cultivation and it’s air-conditioned, so we went in to get some aircon too.

Fatty Moon
Before heading to our next attraction, we stopped by Fatty Moon for some drinks and dessert because the weather was just too hot!
According to Google reviews, their curry fishballs are quite good, but we were still feeling full from lunch and didn’t want anything heavy in this heat. So I had the Coffee Yeh Neh Neh, while the kids had lemon juice and ice cream. My Coffee Yeh Neh Neh was quite interesting, it’s coconut coffee topped with coconut ice cream!

Langkawi Underwater World
Langkawi Water World is not very big, but it’s very informative and simple enough for the kids to learn and understand. Plus, after their mangrove tour the previous day, the visit to Langkawi Water World made it much easier for them to understand.
We bought the tickets online, so once we reach, we just go to the counter and exchange the tickets.

This place is also very nice to walk around. It’s air-conditioned, spacious, and clean. Although there are not many close interactions with the sea animals, the fish tanks are very well maintained, so we could see many big fishes swimming around lively.

Hidden Langkawi
This is where we had dinner and also the perfect spot to catch the fire show! Since we had a big group, I made a reservation two months in advance to secure a good table where we could watch the kids play in the sand nearby and enjoy a great view of the fire show.
For 11 people, there was a minimum spend of RM400, which also served as the deposit to secure the table.

Some of the food we ordered. In general the food is not too bad, acceptable, it’s western food, a lot of easy bites and very easy to hit the minimal spending.

Tips:
🔥 Bring extra clothes and towel for your kids
🔥 Bring sand toys 🔫 along
🔥 There’s washing area near the entrance but only meant to wash your feet and toys.

Day 5 In Langkawi
Breakfast at Co B Diem Langkawi
For our last day breakfast, we visited Co B Diem Langkawi, it’s a kid-friendly café in Langkawi. They have an outdoor play area, and indoors, there are table games for guests to enjoy.
Before we went in, there are 2 doors, 1 normal door and 1 mini door, kind of cute!

We ordered toast bread and egg set, squid pasta and mushroom toast. Their food is really not bad. Pricing wise is cafe kind of pricing. Service is also good. We didn’t order a lot because we are going to have early lunch before we check into our ferry.

Lunch at Food Paradise and Bistro
Before we checked in for our ferry, we had an early lunch at Food Paradise and Bistro. When we arrived, we thought the store wasn’t open. Luckily, it was, although there was only one staff around. He took our orders quickly, but the food options were quite limited and took a little while to arrive. Still, the naan was really good, so it was definitely worth the wait.
