Going to an Aesthetics clinic for skin tightening or facelift has never come across my mind because I’m afraid of needles (not the pain)- on me, Don’t judge me, I know I’m an ex-nurse, and I have no issues administering needles to patients.
So when I was introduced to Ultherapy, my concern was mainly about is there any downtime, any side effects and how long does it last?
What is Ultherapy?
Ultherapy is the only FDA-cleared, non-invasive treatment that goes deeper to stimulate the production of your body’s own collagen and elastin, for natural-looking results without surgery or downtime. Yes, no downtime and it lasts about 18 months to 2 years, of course, that depends on the individual.
So, it’s actually a good alternative for those who want a natural non-surgical approach
How does Ultherapy works?
By using focused ultrasound energy to generate a thermal effect that targets the area underneath the skin. The thermal effect activates your body to start creating collagen, which results in firmer skin, less sagging, and fewer wrinkles
Selecting an Ultherapy Clinic in Singapore…
It’s important to choose Ultherapy-certified clinics because the clinic has to complete Merz’s Ultherapy advanced clinical training course. Although it’s a non-invasive procedure, using an unsafe device or ultrasound energy delivered wrongly can result in burns to the treated area or a less ideal outcome.
I decided to go with Halley Medical Aesthetics due to their positive social media presence and their doctors are highly trained with surgical qualifications and their interest in anti-ageing treatments. Most importantly their transparent pricing which is listed on their website.

Before the treatment
I had a consultation with Dr Mark Lim, telling him my area of concern and what I can expect during the treatment and the outcome. We took some photos and got ready to start the treatment! I didn’t apply any makeup on that day, only sunblock, but the therapist still gave me a good facial cleansing. I was also given painkillers to prepare for the treatment.

Numbing cream is applied to my face before the procedure to make the treatment more comfortable. After 20 minutes, the numbing cream is washed off and the ultrasound gel will be applied to the face to prepare for the treatment.

During the treatment
Throughout the treatment process, the doctor will do an ultrasound imaging of my treated area to ensure that the ultrasound energy is deposited to where it will be most beneficial for the patient

At the start, I felt a bit of aching pain, but it’s bearable and still quite comfortable. During the 2nd round, I actually felt nothing and almost fell asleep.
The treatment duration depends on the area treated. Treatment of the whole face and upper neck takes 60-90 minutes, while treatment of the undereye takes approximately 30 minutes.

After the treatment
I can feel a bit of tenderness on my face when I touch my cheek, if not I can’t feel any difference or pain. There is also no redness or flash on my face. Although some people may experience flash and some swelling right after the treatment, these will disappear within a few hours. It is also normal to feel tender and “aching” for a few weeks on the treated area, as it is an indication that the skin is responding to the treatment. Optimal results are expected in about three months’ time!
Any things that you should take note
Like I mentioned previously, there is no downtime for the treatment. Super important to me as my schedule is packed back to back with my work and kids activities. Basically, you can continue your activity as per normal, including putting makeup right away or having your usual simple facial treatment.

Halley’s staff had actually fixed a 3 months appointment for a post-treatment review! I will update and share over here in Jan 2022!
So, you can say that I can’t wait to have firm and younger skin soon!
